Big fan of Chef Marcus so we couldn't wait to give this place a try while on our trip to NY! Luckily we showed up during restaurant week so we were able to try a number of items. I tried: - Blue Cornbread - Hamachi - Swediopian - Arctic Char - Havatini - Chocolate Cheesecake - Lemon Sorbet Everything was delicious!! Hard to pick a favorite, but a few standouts were the Swediopian and the Arctic Char. The apple water played so beautifully with the berbere-cured salmon. The char was cooked to the perfect temp, had lovely crispy skin, and the corn broth was super flavorful. Honorable mention goes to the blue cornbread. Loved it! Service was great! The space is a decent size, but still felt intimate. And I love the decor. Highly recommend. Go here.

Grabbed a reservation for dinner and were seated as soon as we entered. Our waiter was very friendly and patient, checking in occasionally to make sure we were all good. We got a few things in the menu to share and all in all found everything enjoyable. The branzino in particular was my favorite though everything else was good overall. Nice restaurant to have an intimate meal for a date and good for groups as well. I'd recommend coming to try this place.

Already a fan of Marcus Samuelson, I couldn't wait to try Hav & Mar for Restaurant Week. My daughter and I enjoyed our three course menus. The favorite for the first course was the Hamachi. The broth it was in, I could drink gallons of. The winning second was the curry. The flavors were so well developed and varied that every bite felt like an adventure. The runners up, the Swediopian and Havatini were still good, just not a revelatory as our favorite dishes. We both had the chocolate cheesecake for dessert and were duly impressed by the rich chocolate and the tart raspberry sorbet. Our friendly server was talking about the menu and said this is one of a few restaurants where you can have a totally different flavor experience each time, just based on the dishes you pick. I am eager to take more journeys with Hav & Mar in the future! Also, adore the mermaids everywhere.

Not my 1st Ethiopian experience, but my 1st seafood focused Ethiopian dining. Since it was our first time, our waiter took his time explaining the whole menu to us. The place was really cute that there're African arts hung throughout the restaurant. Their bread basket was impressive, especially the blue corn bread. We ordered 2 out of the crudos on the menu. Portions were definitely on the small side. Both were heavy on the salty and sour notes. The Arctic Char and Havatini entrees were not bad, neither were memorable.

I've never thought African and Nordic food can be fused, until I heard about @havandmar with their Swedish + Ethiopian fusion! Everything was delicious and very special. Bread basket is a must try and the tomato jam was so unique. Swediopian is also a must even just for the name. I also really enjoyed the ocean salad and the corn flavored couscous!

This is a lovely place with a very cheerful modern vibe to the decor and a particularly enthusiastic air conditioner. The staff is pleasant but service at the bar (I was alone, a table seemed silly) was extremely scattered and I had to actively flag someone down to ask about one of the things I ordered that never arrived. But what I had? The food is delicious. I ordered both from the happy hour menu and the regular menu and almost everything was absolutely delightful. I was particularly pleased with my non-alcoholic cocktail, it was in the nineties outside and I was too hot and too dehydrated for liquor, but the mixture of flavors was as beautifully complex and satisfying as any craft drink with a proof to it. The only miss was the Swediopian which, despite being berbere cured, was oddly bland although not unpleasant just not very interesting. And then there was the bread basket. Sweet gods, the bread basket. It's not for the faint of heart, I'll tell you that. I didn't really stop to consider the 19$ price tag, since the restaurant isn't a cheap hole in the wall. I was not prepared for the metric ton of carbohydrates delivered to me. There was easily enough bread for four people (the biscuits in the photo are two inches across for scale), there were probably full meals for a solid two. All of it was excellent, but I couldn't finish even half of it ( I tried!), and then didn't have any room for dessert.

A romantic dinner spot with various delicious seafood options! We ordered the bread basket to start which came with the cornbread, biscuit and injera crisp with various dips. My husband loved the cornbread with honey butter and I was a huge fan of the biscuits as they were so buttery and fluffy. The injera crisp with the shiro hummus was an amazing surprise! We also shared the sea bass and havatini which was a pleasant experience as we exchanged the slight spicy dish and buttery creamy dish every few bites. The sea bass is refreshing, pleasantly crisp skin, all on top of a mildly spicy red sauce with Ethiopian flavors! The havatini is bucatini in a pleasant butter uni - crab sauce with plump bits of shrimp. The zero-proof drinks here are also amazing. The Tost is a sparkling tea with ginger and elderberry which was a unique fragrant drink. The Oceanside is not as lemongrass-ginger forward but is very hibiscus lime forward, giving it a sweet lemonade vibe.

Without the praise and accolades, I might never have wandered this far West for dinner. In the only human desert in Manhattan, Hav & Mar has forced people into the 7 train for something other than the Javits Center or Hudson Yard. Because it looked so "suburban", I had some reservations, but one taste and they immediately disappeared. The Tuna Tartare was a treat. The creaminess of the avocado was balanced with the miso saltiness. I couldn't have been happier with the Seared Striped Bass. It has everything. Heat, salty, crunchy fish exterior covering the luscious inside. Sitting on a sweet onion in a spice filled African bath. This was so good I quickly abandoned the fork and used the spoon to pull broth along with the fish. A simple Blood Orange dessert was a wonderful palette cleanser. I admit, my preconceived notions about this place got the better of me. The work of the kitchen and staff quickly forced those to melt away and I will eagerly return here again.
